“Locally Leesburg” was created in January 2021 to support the Town’s business community during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal was to promote Leesburg as a business location and visitor destination. Small businesses were given the opportunity to be featured in a free promotional video, which highlights who they are, what services they offer, and why they chose to locate in Leesburg. Each interview runs between three to five minutes. The videos are posted on the Town’s YouTube channel, the Town’s website, and other social media outlets for increased viewership and awareness.
We wanted “Locally Leesburg” to benefit businesses, residents, and visitors alike. The goal was to re-introduce people to what Leesburg has to offer and encourage consumers to support the local small business community.
To date, more than fifty businesses have been highlighted as part of the “Locally Leesburg” initiative. Featured businesses have included retail shops, restaurants, professional services, and technology companies. In addition, several local non-profit organizations have been featured. Business owners have enjoyed the opportunity to promote their business at no cost. The on-going initiative continues to experience a steady increase in viewership, which is being tracked on YouTube.
Since launching “Locally Leesburg”, we’ve been able to promote a new business, each week, for more than a year. There is no cost for this initiative outside of staff time provided by two staff members. The production involves one staff member conducting the interview while the other films and shoots b-roll prior to creating the final product. The only equipment being used is an i-Phone, tripod, and two microphones. Footage is uploaded to a laptop and the final piece is created on Adobe Premiere Pro before it is reviewed and published online.
This initiative continues to support the small business community, viewership continues to increase, and staff has managed to incorporate this project into their weekly schedule in order to continue promoting Leesburg as a true destination of choice for business, visitors, and residents.
