This informs anglers of the regulations on the state’s waters. The goal is to translate legal jargon from the codebook into terms every angler understands. The “New This Year” section points out regulations that changed from the previous year, then directs the reader to pages with more details. Anglers refer to this for daily limits and special regulations. Things like age limits on a pond, or how far away from a dam you have to be to fish on a river, things that change depending on where you are fishing are the most helpful. Permits and licenses are also explained.
Arkansas anglers of all ages.
The guidebook is always in high demand upon release. Public response has been positive with minimal questions regarding regulations. Its convenience and portability continues to be a major asset to the anglers of Arkansas. All 510,000 copies are distributed around the state to stores such as sporting goods stores, Walmart stores, convenience stores, bait shops, etc. They are also available to be picked up at any of our facilities.
The deadline is the biggest obstacle. Statewide distribution must happen before January 1, but cannot be worked on until the regulations are passed. Once the regulations are passed, work on the book must move quickly. Multiple drafts go out to all divisions of the agency to ensure its accuracy. Corrections come in from both the editor on style and congruency and the fisheries division on regulation corrections and then legal components on top of that, it takes organization to ensure it all comes together. From start to finish this book was completed and sent to print in 25 business days.
The Arkansas Fishing Guidebook is produced every year to update Arkansas anglers of regulation changes, and is distributed statewide.
