Edinet is the City of Edina's employee extranet.

In 2019, the City launched a redesign of the site. Primary goals of the redesign were to develop a mobile-friendly site on a more stable, open-source platform with modern design; streamline the news features of the site; and provide greater personalization to help employees better do their jobs.

The scope of the project also included:
- Improving the employee directory
- Keep features that allow recognition of anniversaries and birthdays and other types of "fun" features
- Build a way to include news content from the public-facing website (EdinaMN.gov) and the extranet
Edinet is the City of Edina's employee extranet. Only employees can access the site, Edinet.EdinaMN.gov, which is password-protected and linked to Active Directory.

For judges to access the site as different employees to see how it differs from group to group:

All of the goals for the project were met (see below for specifics).

Since launch, there have been 140,470 sessions on the site -- an average of just over one session per day per full-time employee.

48 employees voluntarily subscribed for email updates on various news items. An additional 132 people signed up for browser push notifications.
Edinet was built on the open-source Word Press platform.

Short updates, stories, links to news posted on the City's public-facing site, birthdays and anniversaries are posted on the center of the home page as a one-stop-shop for information. Users can sign up for browser push notifications or emails on news from the site. (Admins can also force emails to users for must-see news and information.)

- Pages under "My Edina" and Department Pages in the sidebar
- Department Calendar
- Department Directory
- Quick Links

Users can further personalize the site by creating "favorite" pages and contacts.
Edina developed a mobile-friendly employee extranet site on an open-source platform with modern design; streamlined news features; and provided greater personalization to help employees do their jobs. The result is a usable site that represents the organization well and promotes the unique opportunities, attributes and assets of Edina to employees.
