The general purpose of this booklet was to commemorate the first five years of the ID5, a forum of the world’s five largest industrial design offices. Specifically, it was created to increase awareness among business leaders and leading government officials in the countries covered by the ID5, as well as the international design community in general, about the cooperative efforts made by the five partner agencies and the success of their initiatives in improving international systems for the protection of designs.
The primary audiences for the booklet are businesses and intellectual property rights (IPR) holders in the countries covered by the ID5, and particularly senior government officials who have responsibility for setting and implementing IPR policy in their respective jurisdictions.
The booklet completely met the ID5’s expectations, and represents a successful outreach initiative to the audience of key international decisionmakers that was targeted by the booklet from its initial conception.
Through both words and images, this commemorative booklet succinctly explains to an international audience five years of ID5 accomplishments and the benefits they have brought to users of the international intellectual property (IP) system. The booklet’s production process was particularly challenging, given the inherently collaborative nature of the booklet, the virtual production process dictated by the pandemic, and the need to obtain consensus among five national IP authorities on every aspect of it. It is a testament to the producers’ forethought and cross-cultural negotiating skills that this publication was produced successfully and on time.
A summary of accomplishments of the ID5 during its inaugural five years, offering its international audience an easy-to-understand snapshot of the organization’s successes in supporting global protections for industrial designs. Conception and execution by a team in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Office of Policy and International Affairs.
